Mensch und Computer 2026 – University of Duisburg-Essen and TU Dortmund University
We endeavour to ensure that our website is accessible. The Digital Accessibility Statement is
required under the North Rhine-Westphalia Act on Equality for People with Disabilities. The technical requirements for accessibility are set out in the North Rhine-Westphalia Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology (BITV NRW).

This statement was drawn up on 8 July 2026.
The digital accessibility review was carried out by a person with specialist knowledge.
How accessible is the website?
This website is partially accessible. It only partially meets the requirements of BITV 2.0.
Which sections are not accessible?
The sections listed below are not accessible for the following reasons:
Incompatibility with BITV 2.0
Sections that are not accessible:
- The main navigation cannot be operated using the keyboard
- The sub-navigation within the main navigation cannot be operated using the keyboard. (Requirement 9.2.1.1 ‘Keyboard’ of EN 301 549)
- As an alternative, the website features a link to a sitemap, which becomes visible when the keyboard focus is placed on a corresponding link above the logo. The link becomes visible when the keyboard focus is on it. The sitemap contains all subpages.
- Font size cannot be adjusted individually
- As the font sizes are specified in pixels, the browser cannot adjust the font size. (Requirement 11.7: User Preferences of EN 301 549)
- Alternative text is sometimes not descriptive or in a different language
- Some of the alternative text for images is in English and/or is not descriptive enough to describe the image. (Requirement 9.1.1.1 ‘Text alternatives’ of EN 301 549)
- English programme titles are not always translated into German or lack language markup
- In the German version, English programme titles appear, for example, under ‘Workshops’. These lack HTML markup for the English language. The lang=”en” attribute is missing. As a result, screen readers sometimes read them out using a German pronunciation, which makes them difficult to understand. (Requirement 9.3.1.2: Words and sections in other languages, as per EN 301 549)
- The table showing the programme breakdown is not created using semantic HTML
- The programme overview at /programm is only visually structured as a table. This structure is not recognisable in the HTML. Consequently, much of the information is not equally accessible (Requirement 9.1.3.1 ‘Adaptable’ of EN 310 549)
- As an alternative, the sitemap is available, into which the programme overview is integrated, and the detailed programme can be found in ‘conftool’
